HUMAN ANATOMY

N1   The Diagram above shows the _Brain_

N2  Label the parts here:
1.) Cerebrum
2.) Thalamus
3.)  Brain Stem
4.)  Cerebellum

N3  The Brain is part of the _Nervous_ System.

N4  The Nervous system makes it possible for you to:
  1. Walk
  2. Breathe
  3. Think
  4. All of the above

N5  The nervous system is made up of these three parts:
A) Brain, heart, and spinal cord
B) Brain, spinal cord, and nerves
C) Nerves, arteries, and veins
D) Nerves, liver, and heart

L1.  This organ is called the _Lungs_

L2.   The Human body has ( 1;  2 ;  5;  1000)  lungs.

L3.  The respiratory system is made up of the _Blood_____, the lungs, and the diaphragm.

L4.  Explain what happens in the lungs:

When you breathe in, or inhale, your diaphragm tightens and moves downward. This increases the space in your chest cavity, into which your lungs expand. The intercostal muscles between your ribs also help enlarge the chest cavity. They contract to pull your rib cage both upward and outward when you inhale.

D1.  This diagram represents the _Digestive__ System.

D2. Label the parts:
1) Mouth
2) Esophagus
4) Large Intestine
5) Stomach
7) Small Intestine

D3.  What is the function of the following organs:
  1. The stomach- The function of the stomach s to break down food.
  2. The small intestine- The function on the small intestine is absorption of nutrients and minerals from food.
  3. The large intestine- The function of the Large intestine is to absorb water from the remaining indigestible food matter and transmit the useless waste material from the body.

C1  The heart is part of the _Respiration__ system.

C2  Label the parts:
2) Left Atrium
3) Left ventricle
5) Right Atrium
6) Left  Ventricle

C3  What does the heart do?
The heart Pumps the blood into the veins so it can send the blood throughout the whole body.

This is when we were learning about the human anatomy and we had to name some of the different body parts. We also had to name the different types of bones and what the heart does.

ENDANGERED NATIVE BIRDS

Name: Siunipa

ENDANGERED NEW ZEALAND BIRDS

We were learning about endangered birds and what will kill them if they are not kept safe, and my teacher put the assessment sheet we had to work on and it was about the endangered birds. I also had to list down some predators

  1. Make a list of some endangered birds in New Zealand.
  Screenshot 2016-03-14 at 2.33.03 PM.png
Takahe      There are 200 Takahe's left in the world.

Screenshot 2016-03-15 at 2.21.52 PM.png

Black Robin  There are only 250 Black Robin’s left in the world.

Screenshot 2016-03-15 at 2.28.54 PM.png

Kakapo  There are only 40 Kakapos left in the world.

2.  Why have these birds become endangered?
These defenseless birds were an easy food source for the first humans, ancestors of the New Zealand Maoris, and later European settlers. People brought with them a host of predators: dogs, cats, weasels, possums, and rats.

3.  What can you do to help endangered birds?

I can help by picking up rubbish because sometimes bird’s think that plastic bags are food and eat the plastic then they could die.

Mean,Median,Mode and range

Mean,Median,Mode and range.

The mean is the ‘average’ of all numbers or scores.

  1.              Add up all the scores.
  2.              Divide this total by the number of scores you added up.

The median is the middle score, once the scores are in order.

  1. To find the median, scores must be placed in order from smallest to biggest.  Start counting one off each end.  Keep going until you have one score left in the middle.

The mode is the most common score, there may be more than one or none at all.

Task 1 :
Find the mean, median, mode and range for each list of scores below.

  1. 2,2,4,6,11                    25 ÷ 5 = 5         4           2        11 - 2 = 9
  2. 4,8,8,9,10,12,12          63 ÷  7 = 9        9          12 & 8     12 - 4 =8
  3. 8,13,19,20                   60 ÷  4 =15       0           0             20 - 8= 12
  4. 2,2,5,7,9                      25 ÷  5 =5         5            2            9 - 2 = 7
  5. 3,6,8,8,9,10,12            56 ÷  7 = 8        8            8            12 - 3 = 9
  6. 0,7,8,14,14,27             70 ÷  6 = 11      14          14          27 - 0 = 27

Task 2:
Martin and Jack both like cricket.  During the cricket season they both score many runs, but who is the better batsman?  Each batsman had five turns at bat and scored the following runs.  Martin said, “I’m better batsman!” Is Martin correct?

Martin        9,9,14,21,47

Jack          7,13,22,22,36

  1. Find the mean for both artin and Jack’s batting scores.
           Jacks: 100 ÷ 5 20
           Martins: 100 ÷  5 = 20

    2.    Find the median for both Martin and Jack batting scores.
           Martin: 14
           Jack: 22

    3.   Find the mode for both Martin and Jacks batting score.
          Jack: 22
          Martin: 9

  4.     Find the range for both Martin and Jacks batting scores.
          Martin: 47 - 9 = 38
          Jack:  36 - 7 = 29

5.       Was Jack correct?
No both of them are equally good.

Task 3:
There are two groups of 10 students in Room 11.  They all sat the same test. Their test results are as listed.  Mya, who is in Group B, said “Our group is better as we had three students who got 10 out of 10!” Is Mya correct?

Group A         4,4,5,5,5,6,7,7,8,9

Group B         1,2,3,3,4,5,10,10,10

  1.    Find the mean for both test results.
                 G.A:59

As you can see in my piece of work here I have learnt about the median, mean and the mode so here is some work I did with my reliever teacher. We also did some word problems were we have to find the median and the mode.

Math's/The Mean

Data Calculations: Finding the Mean (Average)
Looking at any data display graph can tell you a lot about the data, but there are some calculations you can do that will give you more information about the data, that you cannot get by just looking at a graph.

For example:  For the school fundraiser, Mya, Kura, Siunipa and Alicia have been given tickets to sell.
Screenshot 2016-05-31 at 6.22.01 PM.png

Names
Tickets
Mya
12
Kura
10
Siunipa
16
Alicia
14

How many tickets have the girls been given to sell altogether?
12 + 10 + 13 +  14 = 52

If they decided to sell the tickets altogether and then shared them equally among themselves, how many tickets would each one get?
52 divide by number of girls  (4)  = 13

By doing this, we are finding the ‘average’ or mean number of tickets that the girls would have.

The mean (average) number of tickets each girl would have is? 13

To find the mean for a list of scores (numbers), there are two steps.
Step 1: Add up all the scores
Step 2: Divide this total by the number of scores you added up.

For example: Find the mean of 5, 6, 7 & 10

Step 1: Add up all the scores. 5 + 6 + 7 + 10 = 28
Step 2: Divide this total by the number of scores. 28 divide by 4 = 7
Answer:  Mean (average) = 7

Task 1:
Find the mean (average) for each list of scores.
  1. 5, 9
5  + 9 = 14    14 divide by 2 = 7  mean is 7

  1. 10, 16
    10 + 16 = 26 divided by 2 = 13 mean is 13

  1. 17, 13
     17 + 13 = 30 divided by 2 =  15 mean is 15
  1. 5, 8, 8
     5 + 8 + 8 = 21 divided by 3 = 7 mean is 7

  1. 7, 10, 13
      7 + 10 + 13 = 30 divided by 3 = 10 mean is 3

  1. 3, 4, 5, 8
      3 + 4 + 5 + 8 = 20 divided by 4 = 5 mean is 5

  1. 5, 8, 10, 13
     5 + 8 + 10 + 13 = 36 divided by 4 = 9 mean is 9

  1. 9, 9, 13, 17
     9 + 9 + 13 + 17 = 48 divided by 4 = 12 mean is 12

  1. 10, 30, 40, 40
     10 + 30 + 40 + 40 = 120 divided by 4 = 30 mean is 30

  1. 4, 7, 9, 12, 13
      4 + 7 + 9 + 12 + 13 = 45 divided by 5 = 9 mean is 9

  1. 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 12
       4 + 5 + 8 + 9 + 10 + 12 = 48 divided by 6 = 8 mean is 8

  1. 3, 5, 6, 8, 6, 4, 7, 9
     3 + 5 + 6 + 8 + 6 + 4 + 7 + 9 = 48 divided by 8 = 6 mean is 6

Extra
Each week the students in Mrs Thomas’s class are expected to read books, as part of their homework.  She hopes they will read 2 or 3 books each per week.  Last week, this is the number of books each student read.

Screenshot 2016-05-31 at 7.27.14 PM.png

4, 3, 2, 5, 1, 3, 4, 3, 2, 3, 4, 2

  1. How many students in Mrs Thomas’s class?
      12 students

  1. Find the mean number of books read by the students in her class.
        4, 3, 2, 5, 1, 3, 4, 3, 2, 3, 4, 2= 38

  1. Would Mrs Thomas be happy with the class mean?  Explain why?
Yes because she asked her class to read 2 or 3 books and working out the mean shows that the average student 3 books each.
