Burgers and fries - Technology

This was the last day of tech, and we made burgers and fries. It was really fun making and shaping the meat patty. The burgers we made were huge, I couldn't fit my mouth around the burger to take a bite. These burgers were so yummy I am going to make them at home.

Simple machines - Storyboard strip

This is a storyboard strip I made about how I made my simple machine. For my simple machine project I made a scale with two pulleys. It really works, and I was glad to hear my teacher saying nice things about my homemade scale.

Matific

This morning my teacher told us to play matific. Matific is a maths game we play in the morning. At the beginning of the game it was really easy, but as we got to higher levels it got harder and harder. But some activities have really taught me new things, that I haven't learnt before.

Lifting someone with his thumb

So one day Mr Hendricks came into room eight and said he had a challenge for us.  He said that he was going to lift the heaviest person in room eight. We didn't believe him until he showed us. While we were out side he came out with a lever and a long piece of wood. He put the long piece of wood on the lever and told Sive to get onto the other end. When Sive got on the other end he pushed the wood down with his thumb. We were so amazed how he used a simple machine to life the heaviest person in our class with his thumb.

Simple machines

The focus for this term is simple machines. So since our topic is simple machines, my teacher said to make a simple machine of our own at home using a pulley or wheel and axle. In my simple machine I used two bobbin's to act a two pulleys. My simple machine I have created is a old school scale, I also used materials that I had a home. Here are some of the things I used to make my simple machine:

1. Wooden hanger
2. One Toilet roll
3. Two bobbin's
4. Two Plastic cups
5. Five key rings
6. Different sizes of rope
7. A small piece of salafain

Making this simple machine was really hard but I got help from my aunty. So without her help I wouldn't have completed my simple machine. When I was done with my simple machine I decided to help a friend with her simple machine, she made a well with a pulley too.

Yummy Nacho's - Food tech

On Monday, the year 7's and 8's went to Tamaki College for technology. I was in cooking class with room 8's year 8's. So on that Monday we made nacho's.  We first cooked the mince with baked beans. Then our technology teacher sorted out the chips on the plate and afterwards we poured the mince on top of it, and sprinkled some cheese on top.  We had to clean up before eating the food. It was really fun cooking this and I am going to try it at home.

Importance of fire drills

Why is there a need for a fire drill/safety?

Fire drills should be common all around the world. Everyone should have a practise fire drill every once and awhile. You can have fire drills at home and at school, for the safety of students and staff at school or small families in their houses. There are lot’s of reasons why fire drills are important, and here are three examples.

Firstly, people die in fire related incidents because they didn’t know how to react in that type of situation. So having a fire drill can teach someone how to react in a real fire, and know where to go when it happens.  Fire drills can also teach a person how stay calm in a fire situation and know what to do when this comes to be apart of their lives.

Secondly, fire drills can be a life lesson to everybody, because most people panic in a fire situation. So a fire drill will also teach them how to be confident in a real fire situation. When a fire has started in a place where you are then you will be confident enough to do what you are suppose to do.

Lastly, knowing how to react in a real fire can help other people too. So in a related fire situation and people don’t know what to do you can help them by telling them what you learnt from a practise fire drill you have participated in.  Basicly it is also teaching them what you learnt.

There are many more reasons why fire drills are important and know you know three of them. While you are at home or with some friends you can also tell them the importance of having fire drills, and they don’t always need to be at school they can be at home too.

Morning maths - Integers

In the morning I played a math game that our teacher set out for us. This was an easy game. I feel that this game wasn’t challenging for my mind and I wish to play a more challenging game next time.My knowledge on integers really has increased in these past few days. But playing this game I got a better understanding of subtracting and adding positive and negative numbers.

E Te Ariki - Maori lesson

At about 12:15 Ms Maude came to our classroom to teach us a maori song.  We learnt a song called E te ariki, and it was a hymn.  She comes every Tuesday to teach us maori, the maori word for hymn is himene.  It was really fun learning and singing this song, we had some laughs while learning it.  When Ms Maude comes back next week we are going to go over the song again and she is also going to teach us a karakia (Prayer).

Mince and cheese pie

Today at tech we finished the second part of our pie.  We melted the mince and cut out the pastry into a circle and filled our pie plates.  This was really fun, but we had a pastry malfunction. Our pastry got to soft and it got stuck to our chopping board. The pie was very delicious and I want to try and make this at home with my mum. I also got to decorate my pie a little bit.

Help from Room 8 boys

This morning Mr Hendricks popped into our classroom and asked for eight strong boys. So after Mrs Ramkolowan picked the boys, they were just outside the hall trying to remove all of the logs that was placed there.  After I saw them bringing it onto the senior side of the school I was told that they are trying to build a volleyball court on the white squares, because our field is full of water and we can’t play on the grass.  We have been practising a lot and we need a volleyball court to practise also.

Rounding off

Screenshot 2017-08-03 at 9.59.24 AM.png

This decimal game was really easy because I understood that I had to round off to four digits. So I found this game really easy to play, and here is my screenshot to show what I got after finishing this game.

Football skills

Football

Okeii.jpg

Football is a well known sport from around the world.  It is played with eleven players and you you have to get it into the opponent's goal. The rules are simple, and it is played on a soccer field.  There are a lot of skills you need to learn before you start playing the actual game.

This morning my class and I went to the hall for a soccer lesson with our coach Steve.  He taught us some skills that you can use in the actual game. He taught us these following skills 1. Kicking/passing with your outer foot
2. Kicking/passing with your lace/inner foot
3. Kicking/passing with your sole
4. Putting your body between the ball and opponent
These are the skills he taught us, I know how to do some of them but I need more practise.

The only sport that I play is netball and the only way football can relate to netball is how in football you run and in netball you run too. So netball and football don’t have much in common and I can't really compare the two sports.

During our football lesson I had a lot of fun. So the aim of the first game we played was to kick someone else's ball out of the square and if it went out then they lost a point.  Then after that warm up game we played an actual mini game of football and he split us up into four groups and swapped us on and off.

Football is a very fun game to play and I am glad I got to learn a few skills from our coach Steve.  He has taught us some skills and I am willing to learn more next week when he comes for another teaching lesson.
